Microscope Calibration Services in the Greater Philadelphia Area

Microscope calibration uses a stage micrometer to establish reticle dimensions

Image magnification is an indescribably valuable tool, but differences in resolving power between microscopes can create issues recreating viewing conditions. Repeatability in microscope functionality ensures that data gleaned from examinations are precise across multiple devices. Microscope calibration ensures agreement in same-sample test results, regardless of the equipment used.

The Microscope Calibration Process

Microscope calibration compares the grid or scale on the eyepiece reticle with the scale markings of a known dimension on a stage micrometer – this enables a conversion for magnification on different microscopes to produce identical results. The scale lines on a reticle do not represent standard units of measurement (such as millimeters or micrometers); reticle comparison occurs between the marks on the stage micrometer and the lines on the reticle to establish the relationship between a “reticle unit” and a standard unit of measurement. When objects magnify, the image size increases, but the reticle units remain constant: the scale on the stage micrometer aligns with the grid on the reticle for a reading. Microscope reticle calibration thus determines the conversion for each power level of the objective lens.

Calibration Services + Convenience = Success

LTI Metrology has a field calibration team to provide microscope calibration services on-site at facilities within a 125-mile radius of LTI. Our standard microscope calibration services include cleaning and maintenance services; routine cleaning and maintenance are also available without the calibration service.

LTI Metrology is A2LA accredited to ISO/IEC 17025, and calibration results are NIST traceable. Calibration Certificates will meet your quality requirements with accreditation and traceability information, “as found” and “as left” data, and detailed results. Our lab also has the expertise and equipment to calibrate many other measuring instruments on-site at your facility.

The LTI Advantage

Microscope calibration is necessary to ensure visual examination results remain consistent across equipment, avoiding discrepancies between machines. Repeatability provides a straightforward analysis where the only mitigating factors are the sample quality and the operator’s experience – essentially, a well-calibrated device removes any barriers from technicians and quality assessment. LTI’s material testing and metrology experts are committed to giving our customers the best analysis possible to keep your production on schedule.

  • “You folks are top-notch in my book.”

Please tell all involved that I really appreciate the effort put forth in trying to accommodate me with this contrary resistance unit sent in for calibration. You folks are top-notch in my book.
  • “We value the service your organization gives us.”

I wanted to write and applaud LTI for assisting us in calibrating some new equipment, while re-calibrating equipment that was moved. We did not have enough advance notice to schedule LTI to come in and complete the calibration / re-calibration of some of our equipment. As a result, LTI did what they could to get us out of a jam and reduce the one to two week turnaround down to two days. I wanted to let LTI know that this was very much appreciated and we value the service your organization gives us.
  • “I can always rely on LTI for quality service in a timely manner...”

I know I can always rely on LTI for quality service in a timely manner at reasonable price platforms. You are always my first choice for testing and calibration services beyond the scope of my own operation. Please convey my level of complete satisfaction and appreciation for the total LTI experience.
