Gas and Vapor Exposure Testing

Accelerated gas and vapor exposure testing to evaluate material durability and corrosion resistance under controlled atmospheric conditions.

What is Gas and Vapor Exposure Testing?

Gas and vapor exposure testing evaluates the corrosion resistance of materials, coatings, and components when exposed to controlled atmospheres containing corrosive gases.

Laboratory Testing (LTI) performs controlled environmental testing to simulate industrial pollution, chemical vapor exposure, and atmospheric corrosion conditions. Test chambers regulate gas concentration, temperature, and humidity to accelerate degradation and evaluate material performance.

This type of testing is commonly used for electrical connectors, electronic components, coated metals, and assemblies that may be exposed to sulfur compounds, industrial pollutants, or corrosive gases during service.

Capabilities

Laboratory Testing (LTI) performs controlled gas and vapor exposure testing to evaluate corrosion behavior and coating durability in simulated atmospheric environments.

  • Controlled gas concentration exposure testing
  • Mixed flowing gas (MFG) corrosion testing
  • Sulfur dioxide (SO₂) corrosion testing
  • Controlled temperature and humidity conditions
  • Exposure of metals, coatings, connectors, and assemblies
  • Post-exposure corrosion evaluation and analysis

Typical Applications

Gas and vapor exposure testing is used to simulate industrial and environmental corrosion conditions that can degrade materials and protective coatings.

  • Electrical connectors and electronic components
  • Industrial equipment exposed to chemical vapors
  • Automotive and transportation components
  • Protective coatings and plated metal surfaces
  • Materials used in chemical processing environments

Test Parameters

Gas exposure testing is conducted under controlled conditions to simulate corrosive atmospheric environments.

  • Controlled concentrations of corrosive gases
  • Mixed gas exposure including SO₂, H₂S, NO₂, and chlorine
  • Controlled chamber temperature and humidity
  • Exposure durations ranging from hours to extended cycles
  • Post-exposure corrosion evaluation and performance analysis

  • “Really appreciate your on-time turn-around of data”

I just wanted to take a moment here to thank you and LTI team for making it a great year for us. I have been recently getting great feedback on the data that I compiled for our project. And needless to say – the only reason I was able to accomplish this was for your timely testing of all the 100s of coupons I had this year. It all so beautifully played out. Really appreciate your on-time turn-around of data, even though I sometimes make it hard for y’all, haha! And also your very prompt responses to my every question. It has been great working with you all this past year and looking forward to the new year. Thank you once again! Heads-up – we have a ton of samples that will be coming your way in the new year!
