Routine torque calibration ensures repeatable accuracy from instruments that apply torque during production processes. The test equipment used to calibrate torque compares the amount of torque produced by the instrument to the allowable tolerance to determine if any adjustments are needed.

Torque calibration requirements comprise several sources, including manufacturers’ guidelines, ANSI/ASME standards, federal specifications, and customer requirements. Torque sensor, preset screwdriver, and torque wrench calibrations use a torque system with the option to select the appropriate transducer for the instrument range from among multiple choices. Torque multipliers also require two transducers for calibration: one transducer measures the generated torque input, while the other measures the output.

Cable tensiometer calibration uses a known cable diameter and a fixed amount of deadweight attached to the cable. The cable tensiometer is affixed to the cable with the suspended weight to verify that the instrument is reading correctly. This test is repeatable with various cables and loads appropriate for the test instrument.
