Elevated Temperature Tensile Testing

Elevated Temperature Tensile Testing is a reliable process used to evaluate the behavior of metal materials when subjected to a combination of high heat and tension. High-temperature tensile testing services are performed routinely in many industries to assess high-performance steel and other metals that will be exposed to high temperatures while in service, including nickel alloys intended for jet engines and power generation gas turbines.

During elevated temperature tensile testing, a specimen machined from the material is evaluated under controlled heat and tension or load conditions. LTI places the test specimen inside a furnace, which then heats the specimen to the desired temperature. The next step is loading the specimen into the test frame, where an extensometer measures strain levels as the load increases. The stress/strain curve and all data are recorded by the fully computerized system and summarized in your Certified Test Report.

Laboratory Testing offers elevated temperature tensile testing accredited by Nadcap and A2LA ISO/IEC 17025 and completed according to ASTM E21, which determines tensile strength, yield strength, elongation, and reduced area of metallic materials at elevated temperatures.

LTI uses state-of-the-art equipment to perform elevated temperature tensile testing, including a Tinius Olsen tensile machine, a furnace carousel that can heat up to three samples simultaneously to temperatures as high as 1800 degrees Fahrenheit, and a new extensometer that boasts improved turnaround time, repeatability and curve accuracy as well as the ability to handle a broad range of sample types and sizes.
