What is Salt Spray Testing?

Salt spray (fog) testing is an accelerated corrosion method used to evaluate coating durability and material performance under controlled saline exposure conditions.

Laboratory Testing (LTI) provides accredited salt spray corrosion testing laboratory services in accordance with ASTM B117, ISO 9227, and applicable OEM specifications to simulate long-term corrosive environments and assess protective system integrity.

Salt spray testing is widely used across automotive, aerospace, defense, and industrial sectors to assess protective coatings, plating systems, and material durability.

Test Parameters

Salt spray testing is conducted under controlled conditions in accordance with ASTM and OEM specifications to ensure consistent and repeatable corrosion exposure environments.

5% sodium chloride solution (per ASTM B117)
ASTM G85 Annex A1–A5 modified and cyclic protocols available
Chamber temperature maintained at 35°C (95°F) or per specification
Continuous or cyclic exposure durations from 24 to 2,000+ hours
Corrosion evaluation per ASTM D610, D1654, D714, or applicable OEM criteria
